A luxury boutique hotel, housed in a carefully preserved 16-century convent, is the perfect home base for exploring the historic city of Cusco. One of the newest additions to the Cusco luxury accommodation offering, Belmond have shaken up the competition with this stunning and impeccably run property. It’s one of our favorite Cusco hotels, and a top Good Life Expeditions recommendation.
Just around the corner from the main square – the Plaza de Armas, Cusco Cathedral and many of the city’s impressive archaeological sites, this is the perfect base for exploring the city. It’s worth visiting this hotel, even if you’re not staying there. It is filled with stunning Inca artifacts, Spanish murals, gold pieces and hand-carved statues.
Accommodation and Amenities at Belmond Palacio Nazarenas
The hotel is spread across the former convent complex, featuring seven beautiful cloistered courtyards. They are small havens of tranquillity with fountains, bird song and shaded places to sit and relax. The all-suite rooms are impressive. They’re all expansive and slightly different, reflecting the original layout of the convent. They feature stone floors, white-washed abode clay walls, regional artwork and handmade textiles. All of this is presented with the utmost luxury and style.
All the amenities you’d expect from Belmond are there. Four poster beds are draped in high-quality Peruvian cotton, flat screen TVs are wall-mounted or rise from the foot of the bed. Rooms offer espresso machines and a complimentary mini bar. The opulent bathrooms feature marble baths, heated flooring and a choice between silk and cotton bath robes. Oxygen can be pumped into the rooms on request, to help combat the altitude.
Belmond Palacio Nazarenes boasts the first outdoor heated hotel swimming pool in Cusco. Set in one of the courtyards, it’s surrounded by luxuriously padded chaise loungers. The Hypnoze Spa offers six treatment rooms, using natural local ingredients like purple maize and Andean salt.
Wandering through the hotel you’ll come to the former chapel, now a guest lounge in the most extraordinary setting, surrounded by gilded colonial art. Senzo restaurant serves three meals a day, featuring regional dishes with international flair.
